How Snoopy Ended Up on an Omega Replica Speedmaster Dial

It is no secret that besides writing about watches for fratellowatches.com, I also love to collect Cheap Replica Watches — especially iconic watches like the Rolex GMT-Master, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Rolex Datejust and, of course, the Omega Speedmaster Professional. I own several of the last model. Ever since I bought my first Speedmaster I have been hooked on this watch. Not only do I love the design of this chronograph; I also like its connection to the Apollo space program.

As you know, Omega has produced quite a few limited editions based on the original Omega Speedmaster Replica Watches. Some like these limited editions, others don’t. However, the fact is that some of these limited editions do appreciate in market value quite well after a few years. One of these models is the Omega Speedmaster Professional “Snoopy Award.” My professional career started around the time this model was introduced, so it was only a lack of funds that prevented me from buying Speedmaster Snoopy back then. Ever since, I have longed for one, but also noticed that over the years they became increasingly difficult to find, at least for a reasonable price. Recently, I decided to go for it despite the high price. I justified the purchase by telling myself that the longer I’d wait, the more expensive it would get, anyway, right? You can read about the efforts I made to obtain the Speedmaster Snoopy here. After showing my precious new Cheap Omega Replica with a Snoopy to some people, a number of them asked why I wanted a cartoon character on the dial of my watch. I was already aware that many people had this perception of the Speedmaster with the Snoopy dial, also given the fact that it was initially sold to a lot of women.

If you are a Omega Replica aficionado as well, and you know a thing or two about the Apollo missions, you probably are already familiar with the use of Snoopy by NASA. In 1968, NASA chose the famous beagle as an icon to act as a sort of “watchdog” over its missions. In the same year, NASA decided to use a sterling silver Snoopy pin as a sign of appreciation to NASA employees and contractors together with a commendation letter and a signed framed Snoopy certificate. Each of the sterling silver Snoopy label pins has been flown during a NASA mission. Cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, who created the “Peanuts” comic strip was a supporter of the NASA Apollo missions and agreed to let them use “Snoopy the astronaut” at no cost and even drew the Snoopy figure for the sterling silver label pin.

After fixes were made and all systems worked again, the crew started their journey to Earth. This is the really quick version of the story of course; the entire adventure is depicted in the 1995 movie, Apollo 13, starringTom Hanks. Now comes the part where the Speedmaster played an important role. The Apollo 13 crew needed the Omega Replica Watches, first to time ignition of the rockets to shorten the estimated length of the return to Earth, and secondly, to time the ignition of the rockets to decrease speed and raise the flight path angle for re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere. This second operation was crucial, since any mistake in the timing could have led to an incorrect entry angle and, as a result, potential disaster for the crew. As explained before, NASA used the Snoopy award for special contributions and outstanding efforts from both NASA personnel and contractors. On October 5th, 1970, NASA gave the Omega Replica a Snoopy award to acknowledge the crucial role the watch played during the Apollo 13 mission.

Based on the brand’s other limited editions, I would have expected such a release on a 30th or perhaps 35th anniversary rather than a 33rd. Despite the relative high number of Snoopy Speedmasters out there, you’ll have to search to find one at a decent price. Also, beware of Snoopy Speedmasters that had the dial and caseback fitted later on. Always make sure you buy a Speedmaster Snoopy with the original anthracite box, certificate of authenticity. There should also be a copy of the original Snoopy appreciation certificate with the Cheap Replica Watches.

So now you know. When there is a Snoopy on an Omega Speedmaster dial, it actually means something. In the end, of course, one need not be versed in all this history to purchase and appreciate this watch; one may just be a fan of Snoopy. A review of the Omega Replica Watches can be found here. More information about Omega Speedmasters in general can be found on the Speedy Tuesday page on Fratello Watches.

My Top 3 Most Interesting Omega Speedmasters Replica Watches

Among all the watches with interesting histories, Omega’s Speedmaster Professional is one that truly stands out. It was – and still is – the official watch for NASA astronauts performing EVA. NASA chose the Cheap Replica Watches to become the official chronograph watch for astronauts in 1965, after a process that included rigorous test procedures.
As some of you might know, at Fratellowatches we have a weekly recurring item called ‘Speedy Tuesday’. In this series, we put a special Omega Speedmaster Replica Watches in the spotlight. Whether it is the very first Speedmaster from 1957, a collectible limited edition that commemorates the Apollo space program or just a regular Speedmaster Professional ‘Moonwatch’ that has been with the first owner for over 30 years, we love to put these stories online. Ever since we started the “Speedy Tuesday” series, in May 2012, we have come across some very cool and rare Omega Speedmaster watches. For this Fratello Friday, I selected three of the most special Omega Replica that we’ve come across in the past year while preparing our “Speedy Tuesday” posts. While it would have been easier to select 10, or even 20, choosing a top three makes one think harder to determine which are most special or have the more interesting story.
1. Reinhard Furrer’s Speedmaster Professional
This is by far my first choice of Speedmasters that I’ve come across in the last year. The dial marks it as rather unusual, with radial Arabic indexes on the counters. This particular watch was in use by astronaut Reinhard Furrer of the ESA, who flew with the Space Shuttle STS-61A mission in 1985. The son of another ESA astronaut handed it over to me for inspection, as he didn’t knew exactly what he had in his hands. After the Apollo program, NASA decided to hold another competition for an official watch for astronauts. In 1978, after a similar test procedure they performed in the 1960s, NASA chose – again – the Omega Replica Watches to become the official watch for the Space Shuttle program. Omega shipped 56 Omega Speedmaster Professional watches to NASA for use during the Space Shuttle missions. You probably guessed it already by now; this particular watch is one of those 56 watches. I was able to wear it for a week or so, and it is hard to describe the feeling it gave me — wearing a watch that has been on the wrist of astronauts and aboard one of the Space Shuttles. Unfortunately, after taking pictures and sorting some things out for the current owner, I had to give it back.

2. 1969 Speedmaster Professional BA145.022 With Burgundy Bezel
In 1969, just after the Apollo 11 mission that successfully put Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong on the Moon, Omega introduced a gold Speedmaster Professional with a burgundy-colored bezel to commemorate the mission. Omega produced 1,014 pieces of this model. The first 28 went to the White House and the next 26 were given to the NASA astronauts at that time. Number 1 was offered to President Richard Nixon, but he declined it. This particular one is on display in the Cheap Omega Replica museum in Bienne, Switzerland; I had the honor to put it on my wrist when I visited there at the end of 2011. A number of readers and contributors to the Speedy Tuesday series have reported that they own one of these 1,014 gold Speedmaster Professional watches. One of them can be found here and another one can be found in an article that dates back to 2008, long before Speedy Tuesday was initiated. Just recently, Fratellowatches co-organized a small Speedmaster collectors’ lunch in The Netherlands and one of the attendees brought his gold Omega Speedmaster Replica Watches. So, although it is not the rarest of the Speedmaster watches, I would definitely put this gold Speedmaster Professional BA145.022 model in my top 3. The gold dial with onyx markers and black hands are simply stunning. The caseback has a horizontal “First Watch Worn on The Moon” inscription, and each watch is numbered.

3. Speedmaster Professional ‘Automovil Club Peruano’
Here’s a Speedmaster Professional that has a bit of mystery around it. Although Omega keeps good track of historical pieces in its archives and museum, this particular Speedmaster caused a bit of confusion. This Speedmaster Professional has ‘A.C.P.’ on the dial, which stands for “Automovil Club Peruano.” Nothing strange here, as providing special dials to jewelers or certain clubs were not unusual at the time this watch came out. The part that is somewhat of a puzzle is the fact that this watch has “Professional” written on the dial. As mentioned previously, the Speedmaster became the choice of NASA in 1965. Because of that, as the official story goes, Omega decided to have the word “Professional” added in 1966.This particular watch, however, was delivered to the Automovil Club Peruano in 1964, three years before the Speedmaster Professional was officially introduced. It’s possible Omega Replica used an old stock of movements in these particular watches, which were shipped to the A.C.P. in 1964, as I’ve found similar models with official Omega documentation that indicates that. The truth is probably less exciting that we think, but are these details that can keep collectors busy for years.

Introducing the Omega Replica New James Bond Watch

The newest James Bond movie, called Spectre, will hit theaters on November 6th of this year and, as we all have expected and anticipated, Omega has unveiled its latest official 007 watch, the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra James Bond Limited Edition, to coincide with the film’s release. In this article from my blog, Watch-Insider.com, I reveal more about the new timepiece.

Omega Replica

The dial of this new Cheap Omega Replica is inspired by the coat of arms of the Bond family, and Omega says that the watch itself will be limited to the odd number of 15,007 pieces. The brand didn’t arrive at this number by coincidence, however: the movement used in the modern versions of the Omega Replica, of which this watch is one, resists magnetic fields greater than 15,000 Gauss. Combine that with Bond’s famous “007” numeral and the “15,007” number makes sense. You’ll find this number on the dial and also on the back of the watch, which indicates the series number and the text “15,007 Gauss.” Personally, I very much like the contrast between the yellow and the blue elements on the dial.

The Omega Replica Watches has a 41.5-mm case and is powered by Omega’s automatic Caliber 8507. In addition to its anitmagnetic properties, the version of the movement, according to Omega, boasts a newly designed winding rotor inspired by the iconic James Bond gun-barrel motif. I will update the article with a photo when Omega releases it.
So who wants to bet that the new Omega Replica will end up playing a major role in James Bond’s latest adventure? Perhaps there will be a scene with a huge magnetic field, in which everything stops and is rendered useless except for Agent 007’s antimagnetic watch? Time will tell…

Fratello Friday’s Top 5 Omega Replica Watches

Following up on the recent release of the latest James Bond watch — like many previous ones, an Omega Seamaster Replica Watches— we revisit this “Fratello Friday” article in which I offer my personal all-time “Top 5” list of Omega Seamaster watches.
Omega introduced the Seamaster collection in 1948. In 1957, Omega introduced the first real divers’-watch Seamaster, the CK2913. This first Seamaster 300 was in the same sporty vein as the Omega Replica and Railmaster. The dressier Seamaster models were re-branded as Seamaster DeVille, and eventually the DeVille would became an Omega watch family of its own.
In addition to the various versions of the Seamaster 300, another iconic Seamaster watch from the past is the Omega Replica Watches PloProf 600m — a watch built for professional diving and which also has a little COMEX history behind it. The original PloProf was developed with help of COMEX and Jacques Cousteau — before both chose to work with Rolex, of course.
1. Omega Seamaster XVI, ca. 1956
Although way too small for me to wear, this beautiful rose-gold Seamaster XVI was manufactured to commemorate the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. There is also a rarer version, with a Chinese lacquered logo on the dial, but I like this one a bit more. It has self-winding movement with a copper-gold finish.

2. Omega Seamaster PloProf, ca.1971
Something completely different than Number 1 on this list, perhaps even its opposite. This monster was – as already mentioned in the introduction – designed with some help from the French diving company COMEX and introduced in 1971. The wearer turns the rotating divers’ bezel by pressing the red button. The case has a monobloc construction, so the movement would need to be removed on the front side, via the crystal. It has a copper-colored Cheap Omega Replica Caliber 1000, a self-winding movement.

3. Omega Seamaster 300 CK2913, ca. 1957
The mother of all Omega divers’ watches, the Seamaster 300 is a watch with an appearance very similar to that era’s famous Speedmaster watch, but with a totally different purpose. The Omega Replica also featured the same “Broad Arrow” shaped hands as the Speedmaster until it was succeeded by a new reference in 1962. Inside, the copped-colored Caliber 501 movement powers the watch.

4. Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT GoodPlanet
With the traditional Seamaster Planet Ocean watches measuring either 42 mm or a whopping 45.5 mm in diameter, I was pleasantly surprised to see this Omega Replica Watches introduced in 43.5-mm case. The GoodPlanet version is a tribute to Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s GoodPlanet foundation. This watch contains Omega’s in-house Co-Axial movement, Caliber 8605.

5. Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Chronograph Diver Titanium
Perhaps the odd one on this list, but it a personal favorite of mine. Even though I am not particularly a fan of titanium cases nor of ETA/Valjoux 7750-based movements, I appreciate this piece for a few reasons.
